Gawker Media Launches Gawker.TV
Gawker Media announced today the launch of Gawker.TV, a new property dedicated to "highlights from TV and the web curated by Gawker's video monitoring department."
This latest outpost in Gawker's media empire is helmed by Gawker video editor (and This Is Why You're Fat co-creator) Richard Blakeley with Mike Byhoff and Whitney Jefferson.

Nick Denton—founder and publisher of Gawker Media—explains the idea for the site "emerged out of conversations" between himself and Blakeley as a way to take advantage of the "amusing but shallow video that just doesn't fit on the front door of Gawker."
In Blakeley's words, his video crew is focused on "the same kind of work [they've] already been doing for other Gawker properties for years" but with a greater focus on "odd, non-newsy" stuff.
A quick scan of the material on the site reveals "the most offensive video on YouTube", an adorable puppy video, and a Herbie Hancock Retro Jam. Not exactly highbrow material, but the site is tailored towards more fun ("or more shallow, depending on your perspective," Denton notes) content than the Gawker front page.
In addition to curated content and "a mix of compilations … as well as video galleries," Blakeley and his crew will be producing original video content, the first of which is scheduled to appear this Friday.
