Denali National Park is the only park in the United States with a functioning dog kennel and mushing dogs serves a critical function to this day. Thankfully for our team, there are a handful of small cabins dotted throughout the park that were used by rangers in the past, and can now be used by civilians as respites during their winter time adventures.

As you can imagine, the cabins don't come with central heating. The only way to warm up is through a method that has been practiced by humans for eons: fire. So the daily routine upon arrival to the cabin was to start a fire, and go gather water for boiling.

Since warm air is less dense than cold air, it rises to the top of the cabin while the colder air sinks to the floor. Thus, if you slept on a top bunk in the cabin, you may swelter in 75 degree temperatures, while those sleeping on the floor would literally wake up to ice crystals.

In our second to final edition, we rise to temperatures that can cause frost bite to exposed flesh within minutes, and we end at the place where Fahrenheit and Celsius collide. Can you name that temperature? I'll give you a hint, it's cold enough that when we reach our cabin, you'll see us throw hot water into the air and when it lands, it's snow. Press play!

Next week is our final episode. And the answer is yes, it keeps getting colder.

We are spitting distance to the start of Iditarod folks! Lance Mackey defends his fourth straight title and a large field of contenders are about to attempt to end his streak before it reaches five.

Until we rub noses again!
