Santa Cops Respond to Burglary, Buy Replacement Gifts for 7-Year-Old
After Newport News police officers Ramon Quinones and Jon Sorg responded to a burglary at a local home on Friday, their inner Secret Santas went into high gear.
JaQuita Stephenson, 26, found a broken window when she came home, her Christmas tree damaged, and all of the gifts she had purchased for her 7-year-old daughter taken by a Grinch.
Officers Quinones and Sorg approached community resource officer Donald Greathouse, and things moved quickly from there. Other police officers dug deep and called friends and family to raise cash. Earlier today, all three officers hit their local Walmart, Target and an appliance store. When Walmart store employees discovered what they were up to, they pooled their spare cash and purchased a gift as well.
Stephenson was called back to the station, believing she was going to provide additional information on the burglary. What she found was all of the stolen gifts replaced, and more.
"I know she's going to be surprised and shocked, and she's just going to have a big smile on her face," Stephenson said of her daughter, who will soon learn on Tuesday that there are good people who will always outweigh the bad with a little effort. "She's still going to have a good Christmas."
