Shooting Rapids in Denali

Many people who travel a lot for fun adventually get around to trying their hand at white water rafting. I've seen multi-day trips down the Colordado River that look absolutely spiritual. For the record, one day this travel bug will make his way down The Grand Canyon in a raft.

But if you're going to go big, you've got to add Alaska to that mix, and if you're going to add Alaska, you've got to add the Denali/Healy area to that list, as well.

The Nenana River is one of the mightiest and coldest rivers in the state of Alaska. In fact, it gets so cold that it hosts the Nenana Ice Classic (http://nenanaakiceclassic.com/) every year when Alaskans purchase tickets with estimates on when the river's ice will break up. This year's jackpot? Over $338,000.

However, on this occasion I took on the Nenana in it's liquid form. But at just 36F, it's barely above frozen stage and could literally kill me if I fell in and couldn't get out rapidly. So with a dry suit in tow, I headed out with Denali Raft Adventures (www.DenaliRaft.com) for a wild ride, down a wild river.

Until we rub noses again!
