Soccer Playing Robot CHARLI Dances Gangnam Style

Quirky musician Psy's Gangnam Style YouTube video has flown by half a billion views, and sparked hundreds of copycat versions across the globe, as men and women have tried their hand at Psy's fun footwork. It was only a matter of time before the robots got into the act.

Student engineers at the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory of Virginia Tech programmed CHARLI, a robot developed to study and mimic how we walk. The humanoid robot's more recent cousin CHARLI-2 is even more agile than its predecessor, designed to even play soccer without direction for the RoboCup competition, which it has won two years running.

Not only is CHARLI-2 set on a flowpath to become the first mechanical Pele, but also has its electronic eyes on Psy's moves. Watch him go...
