The ALCAN Highway

Well, summer is at hand and for thousands the world over, that means it's time to hit the ALCAN highway. Named for the combination of "Alaska" and "Canada", the trip up or down the ALCAN provides you with just that: a beautiful adventure through the rural areas of both.

I took the adventure with The Milepost (www.milepost.com), which is "the Bible of North Country travel". The Milepost literally gives you milepost by milepost descriptions of the trip and is what I literally consider a MUST to have if you're going to undertake the journey.

So join me as I drive by some of the highest mountains in Alaska, and literally almost run out of gas outside of Whitehorse in the Yukon territory (not proud of this one). The ALCAN is truly an adventure of a lifetime.

Next time we'll complete the journey by jumping on the good ship Malispina and completing the journey on the Alaska Marine Highway.

Until we rub noses again!
