Video: Michelle Bachmann Promises a Return to $2.00 a Gallon Gas
In a move that is reminiscent of a student running for senior class president and vowing to put pizza on the menu every day in the cafeteria, Michele Bachmann says that under her Presidency there will be a return to $2.00 a gallon gas.
Certainly the idea of cheap gas hits home with many voters since the average price today at the pumps is approximately $3.50 a gallon.
Bachmann offered no explanation as to how she was going to accomplish this. Certainly she does not plan on using government resources or policies to encourage a drop in gas prices.
"The day that the president became president gasoline was $1.79 a gallon. Look what it is today." Bachmann said.
She ignores the reality that we were in a severe economic contraction and that demand for crude was greatly reduced. There has been no word from Representative Bachmann as to whether or not she plans to once again send the economy spiraling downward worse than it is now to achieve the reduction in gas prices.
She is in favor of increased drilling and reducing restrictions which would increase the supply of crude. Of course once the increase is realized years down the road, OPEC will simply restrict the supply of oil they release to the world and the resulting decrease in gas prices will amount to pennies.
"Under President Bachmann you will see gasoline come down below $2 a gallon again. That will happen."
This campaign promise reveals nothing about Michele Bachmann other than she knows the hot button issues to push for today's voters. She also knows full well that her Republican base will not demand an explanation for how she is going to accomplish this.
If she were to receive her party's nomination I do expect President Obama to ask the question though. I would hope she would offer up something more intelligible than, "Ummmm....how does pepperoni pizza sound."
