A Love Lost?

It all started on a hot Georgia night in July.

I was looking at potential schools to transfer and was checking my OkCupid account to see if my plan was working. Now, what was my plan? I'm sure that is the burning question, right? What ingenious plan could a college kid possible have involving college visits?

If any of you have ever been to Charleston, one of the cities I was visiting so I could check out the College of Charleston, is also host to another wonderful institution: The Naval Weapons Station/ Naval Nuclear Power Training command. Translation: young, hot, smart, lonely sailors who would probably gladly show me around. So, I messaged many of the best looking men I could find. Four responded, including one officer who was a Naval Academy graduate. About a week later, a very attractive, tan sailor responded to a message I had sent him two weeks prior about kittens. Yes, the smoking, tough, alcohol-loving sailor also loved kittens. Who knew? Up until the day we met, we talked an hour a day minimum on the phone, texting, Skype- we just clicked! I was on Summer break and he was on hold until he started the Navy’s next phase of grueling training.

I remember the day I met Michael in August, on a hot Charleston day, and I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a better looking man in my life. While not as tall as I would have liked, he had tan skin, a toned body, and a mesmerizing smile. Surprisingly, he was very well dressed and his rolled up sleeves showcased a huge tattoo of an eel and an anchor, which gave him some credibility as a “bad boy”. I was smitten.

“It’s nice to finally meet you, I should forewarn you that my air conditioning doesn’t work,” were the first words he spoke to me in person. Luckily for me, I had decided to forgo the usual pants since it was excruciatingly hot and let my very-noticeable scars be on display. Thank God he didn’t seem to care, much less notice!

The next night, I had a date with another sailor named Nick who was my usual type. Nick was a ruggedly handsome Midwestern sailor with a bit of a past. Then again, who doesn’t have one of those? We talked on Skype and he always told me that I was beautiful. I was excited to meet him! However, as sweet as he was, it wasn’t what I had imagined. I regret not staying in touch and, to this day, feel horrible for hurting him.
