Cancer Store USA, Designed by a Survivor
Chemotherapy is one of the hardest things to watch someone go through. There are days when you wonder if it is really worth it. It is absolutely a life saver, but can be the fight of a lifetime also. Patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation have unique hurdles to bound that the rest of us wouldn’t have to put thought into as we go about our day.
Burns from radiation can be painful and itchy. Drains and surgical sites need to be maintained without getting wet or dirty. Patients are often continuously dealing with nausea, fatigue and dry mouth symptoms. Anyone who has gone through chemo, or has watched someone go through chemo, will agree that it takes a patient to know exactly what a patient needs. Dr. Melanie Bone M.D., answered that call when she herself became ill with stage III Breast Cancer. After her hands on experience, she has spent her time trying make life easier for future patients undergoing Chemotherapy and Radiation.
She created Cancer Shop USA, which has unique products reviewed by patients and doctors, specifically intended to make life easier for the patients undergoing treatment. Currently the store has more than 300 products relating to the physical and emotional trials of undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Some of the products include a unique line of clothing which will open only partly in the front to allow port access without making the patient have to disrobe. This is helpful because chemotherapy can make you extremely cold during treatments and waiting there with your top off can become unbearable. Another product that is incredibly useful is the shower shirt which is designed to protect mastectomy and port sites during a patient’s shower, which relieves the problem of trying to wrap themselves in something, or living with sponge baths.
Dr. Bone’s products are innovative and beyond helpful. They will make the lives of chemotherapy and radiation patients more comfortable and more bearable. Dr. Bone designed products from a patient’s perspective and she was spot on. A portion of the sales from Cancer Shop USA will go to the Cancer Sensibility Foundation, which is a charity Dr. Bone founded which is intended to create programs to destigmatize cancer and assist patients and families. As a survivor, Dr. Bone is dedicated to making it easier for others going through the battle of fighting cancers. Through the use of her store and charity, hopefully those stricken with cancer will feel supported in their battle.
