Car Seats, the New Fuel in the Mommy Wars - Page 2
The new recommendations will take time to make it into mainstream use. I will not be turning my 3 year old back to rear facing, however I will keep her new sister rear facing longer. Will my kids still be in boosters at 10 and 12? Honestly, probably not, I mean school buses aren’t required to have seat belts and we put kids on them as young as 5. It’s about making a decision based on what’s best for your family taking into account your own unique circumstances. You don’t know my situation, and I don’t know you and your situation.
It looks to me like the only thing the AAP has guaranteed is that they have stoked the flames of the mommy wars almost more than the breast vs formula debate. I see playgroups in the future where moms are trying to one up each other with how long they kept their kids rear facing. None of which will make kids safer. Maybe what the AAP needs to do is issue a statement saying it’s best if moms only parent their own children. Or maybe just a basic policy recommendation of Be Nice or Say nothing?
