Get Santa Claus on the Phone!
Santa Claus is riding the digital wave, making telephone calls and spreading holiday cheer to good little boys and girls throughout the United States and Canada.
Gmail created a program in which you can arrange to have Jolly Old St. Nicholas call any person with a U.S. or Canadian telephone number, on your behalf, with a message of Ho-Ho-Holiday fun.
The program, Send a Personalized Call from Santa, is fast, free and easy to use.
Users enter their name and the name of the recipient, and follow a few simple prompts asking about the recipient's preferences, such as favorite food, design style, most wanted gift for Christmas, job and relationship to the sender.
Once all selections are made, the sender fills out the phone number fields indicating who the call is to and from, and Santa takes care of the rest, calling the recipient within seconds.
Santa messages can be humorous for family and friends, or simple and kind for young children. Even cats and dogs can send holiday wishes to their owners!
The only downfall of the program is that Santa has a limited vocabulary, so he can only pronounce a few hundred names, and you have to choose from a list of holiday wishes, favorite foods and the like rather than use your own creativity.
But for free, it's one fabulous deal this season, with over 5,000 people listing it as a Google "plus one" page since its release December 16.
For a sample call to a little girl named Emma from her mother, be sure check out this audio feed from the google blog.
