Green Garage, Female Owned and Operated
The November issue of O: The Oprah Magazine features courageous and innovative women who have made a mark in professions they admit to as their true calling.
One of these remarkable woman is Carolyn Coquillette, who owns and operates a clean, green auto garage that caters exclusively to hybrid cars. Her auto shop, which she named Luscious Garage, is located in downtown San Francisco. It is definitely not the conventional testosterone-filled, male dominated space.
Instead, the spotless space has green leafy plants, skylights, and high ceilings.
Coquillette is the lead technician in her auto shop and graduated with degrees in English and Physics before she started taking classes in auto repair.
In terms of being eco-friendly, her garage relies on solar energy and filtered rainwater and is, get this, 100% paper-free! She and her team designed software to manage client accounts online. She's got brains, brawns, and beauty.
Hers is a truly remarkable enterprise not just because she practices eco-savvy measures even as she reaps the financial rewards of running the business of owning, operating a garage and fixing cars; more importantly, she creates and provides green jobs and becomes an example to others who still equate green with impractical and unfeasible business models.
Clearly, she has succeeded in realizing her vocation, doing work that she loves; that helps others as much as it helps the environment.
