The following are important safety guides and tips that all parents of small children are encouraged to follow to make their little ones safe and secure on the day of Halloween "Trick or Treat" night!

1. Children should always be accompanied by an adult when out trick or treating.

2. Instruct all children to stay with the group. It is never safe to wander off alone or to go into someone's home that they do not know to receive candy.

3. Try to return home before it gets dark or at least pack some reflective clothing if you plan to be out late. Glow tape works well applied to the front and back costumes. Some children prefer carrying a flashlight or a glow stick.

4. Be sure to follow the curfew times set by your city. This helps everyone in the neighborhood know when to expect you.

5. Make sure children do not start eating their treats until they return home with them. Parents should inspect all candy received to make sure it is safe for their children to consume. Look for expiration dates and food ingredients that your kids might be allergic to.
