Lara Logan: Sexual Assault Wasn’t Enough
CBS news correspondent Lara Logan has been in the headline news for days since being brutally beaten and raped while covering the resignation of Egyptian President Mubarak on February 11, 2011.
People from around the world have been following the story on the South African reporter and wishing her and her family the best and speedy healing. For the most part, the people have been sympathetic to the savage beating and rape of a female reporter.
On the other side of the coin are the comments being posted all over the Internet that are causing anger among those who sympathize with Lara Logan — comments have been downright mean and seem to keep getting worse even though many thought that would not be possible.
Everything from the reporter’s career to her looks has been attacked. Blatant comments asserting that the fact that she is a beautiful woman was the reason she was beaten and attacked. Others feel and have stated the case that she should never have been in a foreign land because she is a woman and she knew it could happen.
Lara Logan was in Egypt on assignment for CBS. She was covering a story that was about to be world history. Did she ask to be beaten and raped? The answer is no. Did she somehow go looking to be raped? Did she flirt with the attackers and get herself into this position because she is a beautiful reporter? History does seem to repeat itself over and over.
Sexual assault happens to every type of person. Sexual assault happens to the young and old as well as male and female. Although the rate of sexual assault seems to be higher in females, it does happen in the male population as well.
