It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of President Obama. In the presidential primary, before anyone thought he could beat Hilary Clinton, my husband and I went to a fundraiser for him at a swank LA home. He was everything you’d imagine: charming, funny, good looking and smart. My husband, who was on Law Review the year Barack Obama was elected president of Harvard Law Review, reluctantly admits President Obama was—and is--everything I’ve described. But it’s the First Lady, Michelle Obama, who I’ve come to find so intriguing.

Let’s start with the fact that she’s an uber-educated mom of two married to the leader of the free world. As if that weren’t enough, she speaks her mind on issues she’s passionate about and she doesn’t give a you-know-what about the right-wing detractors. After all, who can argue with trying to fight childhood obesity? Oh, Sarah Palin, who just crawled out from under an Alaskan rock, tries nonsensically to argue with her. Nobody listens.

It’s the First Lady’s fashion choices that are so ingenious. I follow the fabulous blog, Mrs. O that chronicles all of Michelle Obama’s public events and discusses in detail who was there and what she’s wearing. The blog has a slightly retro vibe and Mrs. T, the blog founder, writes in a semi-formal tone

For example, when discussing Mrs. O’s recent trip to El Salvador, the blog says, “The President and First Lady attended an official dinner at the National Palace in San Salvador, El Salvador last evening. For the occasion, Mrs. O wore an ivory and gold dress by L’Wren Scott, accessorized with chandelier earrings and pearl bracelets. Or, “Leaving Brazil, Mrs. O wears a Marc by Marc Jacobs Simone Stripe Dress.” The site offers where to buy links.
