New Jersey's Bad Rap: Pass It On - Page 2
You know what was missing from each of the New Jersey towns we looked at? The industrial smokestacks and foggy haze. The accent (though I do hear some 'wahtuhs' every now and then). The crime (did you know Newark's mayor has himself been going on nightly street patrols?!) The gaudiness we were expecting. The streets of our town are lined with centuries-old trees, and skies so clear that on most days we can see the Manhattan skyline as we head south on Route 17 or US Hwy 208. Oh, and did I mention that I can walk my son to school, or over to Starbucks, the bank, the train, the bus, the butcher, a bagel shop, a pizza place, the pharmacy, the library and more - all within four blocks of my home?
I'm left to assume that the people poking fun haven't actually BEEN to New Jersey. Which is alright. I'd rather not have to share it all anyway. . .
