Raising a City Boy From The Suburbs - Page 2
Looking back, I shouldn't have been so surprised when walking around the West Village the other day, when Li'l Boo informed me that he wanted to live there. "I want us to move to New York City. I want to be here everyday." Uhm....er...what? You want to live here? I laughed. Of course he does! It's such a treat to come in with mom or dad and get to do fun things in this wondrous concrete jungle. He's gotten to do some of the coolest things in his life here!
Not that I think he's better for doing these things than I was at his age, but it makes me happy that he's familiar with these customs at such an early age. I think when I grew up so many miles from the Big Apple, that it can take time to feel comfortable in knowing where you're going and how to get there navigating not only the streets, but the subway and cab systems and finding favorite recommendations as well.
I don't want him to be afraid or overwhelmed by the big city; I want him to respect and enjoy it. At the risk of sounding premature, I think that within these two years, I've accomplished my goal.
