Obesity - Keep It Under Control Right From Childhood
With the exponentially growing technology used in children's games, are kids getting enough of physical play time anymore? It is very hard to get your kid to get of the Nintendo or Xbox and go out to the park and play with the other kids. Most of the time it is hard to even find other kids in the park to play with.
This is a common problem faced by families and is going to drastically change the lifestyle of this generation of kids. When we think of childhood, we think of the sun, dirt, laughs, unlimited running around and playing till sunset and more importantly the numerous great friends we made.
Although there are many excuses for our kids wanting to be on the computer or watch TV, we need to make a conscious effort to encourage them to go out and play. Most of the habits they develop, when it comes to watching TV can be cut down by parents avoiding the habit when the kids are at home.
You need to spend an hour or two a day to take the kids to the park or to the beach and let them run around and burn some energy. This will also enable them to have well rested sleep at nights. It can get a bit boring when other kids are not there for them to play with. A good solution to this would be to buy them fun outdoor toys and you can play along with them or read a book while they're at it.
You can take them down to the pool and they can play fantastic pool games such as water polo, water volleyball, water basketball etc which burns a lot of energy while being a lot of fun. If you like close to the beach, encourage them to build sand castles, dig in and wait for the waves to fill it up with water, get creative with sand moulds etc. This can keep the kids entertained and busy for hours.
Physical activities are very important for kids as with adults for their well-being. Lack of this will result in childhood obesity, which is very hard to control as they get older. More than that, childhood memories are not complete without getting dirty and enjoying the great outdoors.
