My life was improved by receiving honest, frank, specific and complete sex education, including watching the movie Little Darlings. I wish that was true for young women (and men) in school today. The rise of the internet, of course, has offered more opportunities for an education about sex for everyone, but much of it isn’t ideal and is pornographic (thank goodness when I was a teenager I wasn't expected to complete most of the sex acts featured in porn today). Luckily, a few great sites such as Scarleteen have stepped up to the plate to offer teens the same kind of frank and direct information that I received at school. This site is a great resource for teens and is better than nothing, of course. But I still wish teens today had the ability to sit in a classroom and ask their questions openly, as I did. Perhaps as more people realize that abstinence only education isn’t working, this will change. I can only hope.
