Sila Sahin.... My Opinion and Take on the Controversy
Sila Sahin is a famous German model/actress of Turkish descent. This woman, who is a Muslim, recently posed nude for Playboy in Germany, which has sparked a wave of controversy all around the globe. Sila has received death threats and huge amounts of criticism, from many Islamic groups and many Muslims around the world. They have labelled her with all kinds of obscene labels like "Western slut", "whore, and "prostitute." Sila's life is in great risk at the moment, and this will be an article where I'll actually defend her because I don't believe that she deserves this, despite me being a Muslim myself.
The Arab world is now living under a wave of uprisings, revolutions, marches for freedom.... a huge awakening. We're fighting to be free, to live in a democratic and free society where we can express ourselves without persecution and without the fear of getting killed. We Arabs have been suffering for ages, with tyrannical "leaders" and governments and closed societies. Finally, we've awoken and we've gotten fed up, we want democracy and freedom, and we're willing to sacrifice ourselves for that sake. I'm saying this because, that's exactly what Ms. Sila did.... she liberated herself. She liberated herself from the closed society and upbringing we've been living for years. She let herself go, she expressed herself freely. This is what we Arabs and Muslims are fighting for, liberation, democracy and freedom. We want to express ourselves without persecution, that's what Sila did. We want to be liberated, that's what Sila did.
So why are people persecuting her and sending out death threats?! It's absolutely unwarranted and ridiculous in my opinion, many women have posed nude on Playboy and other magazines, and you're persecuting one of them because of her religion?! I thought we wanted freedom and democracy, and now people are persecuting Sila for doing just that?! In my opinion, this is hypocritical, I know some people won't agree, but I am with Sila on this one.
She doesn't deserve these death threats and the persecution, she should've been praised for what she did, she went against what we have been suffering for years, closed and isolated societies. Ms. Sila Sahin should be revered not persecuted, if you don't want or like seeing her nude pictures, then don't see them.... simple as that.
P.S. I've seen some of the photos just to see what all the fuss is about..... she looked smokin' hot.
