Standing in Line
How many lines do we stand in daily, weekly, monthly?
Let's see, there is the never ending traffic, the line at the grocery store, the line at the dept. of motor vehicles, the line at the video store, the line at the movies, the line at the post office, the line at the cleaners, the college registration line, and on and on and on.
These lines have caused us to lose our tempers and become just generally disgruntled. Why is it so hard for us understand that we cannot always be first?
People can get so upset about having to wait. The truth is we live in a world with lots of other people. We just have to take our turn! Is it so hard to understand that the person in front of you is just as important as you are? Can the reason we are so disgruntled have to do with the fact that we are just downright selfish? There is only one #1! Do you think that you are not relevant because your number is #2?
Well, I think if everyone realized that the number one is not anymore significant than the number two, then we could eliminate a lot of stress, brought on by jealousy, and low self-esteem.
We can all be number one if we can stretch our minds to see that even though this person is the first at the grocery counter with his food does not mean that my food is any less significant.
It is just an illusion that we have created in our psyche to think that the first person is more special than the second. Where does this come from? Sure, Bill gates was the first to the line with Windows, but does that make Steve Jobs any less significant with his Apple invention? I don't think so!
The important thing is that you made it to the line. What you do when your turn comes is another thing. Make sure you do not squander your place in the line, whether it is number one or number 100!
