Mi Pueblo San Rafael's Newest Latin Supermarket
While I have always loved my Italian
background on the foodie front, being a born and raised California gal I
am seriously partial to Mexican food. My passion for tacos, tamales,
burritos (which is really not a Mexican food but a Californian
creation), tostadas, et al was only further inspired by my time spent
living in San Diego. With my then convenient proximity to the border I
discovered new treats with the likes of bacon wrapped hot dogs! Okay,
I'll admit it, I was in college at the time of my 'Sandy- Eggo' days and
not quite the foodie that I am now, but due to the slightly lower drinking age in Mexico, I was
occasionally known to jump across to Tijuana and find some cervezas and
other food related goodies. Eventually, I graduated and returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, however my thirst for good Hispanic food continued. As my passion for cooking grew - so did my quest for good local Latin markets. Until recently, there were only a few spots that I could run to when looking for my preferred ingredients...well at least until recently. (Enter, center stage, Mi Pueblo.)
Mi Pueblo is Marin County’s newest Latin supermarket/ethnic culinary hot spot. It is a lovely hidden treasure of flavors and seasonings. I recently had the pleasure of visiting the new Mi Pueblo market in San Rafael, CA and not only did I love what I saw (see my last Semi-Wordless Wednesday post at www.bowllicker.com) but I was inspired to create a recipe that I’ve been thinking about for the last year – Tacos Nopales (Cactus Tacos). If you are looking for a fun vegetarian dish to serve I can recommend this one as it received rave in-home reviews.
