Well, sometimes when my workload is busy the "non family time" slips into the "family time". Lately that has been the standard instead of the exception.

My mind was racing: did my 7 year old view me as someone obsessed with work? Don't many kids view their fathers in that way so why can't they view their moms like that as well? Oh my, what have I done?

Then my son said "And you like to watch me play baseball, play super heroes, ride bikes, play at the beach and read books together.

I stopped feeling guilty and asked him "Why didn't you put that on the card?"

He replied "Because you really love technology, so I put that first. I ran out of room to put the other things".

Crisis averted for now. But I am still left wondering, like many working moms, if I have the right work/life balance or if I need to rethink my strategy. I also wondered if any other moms were shocked with their handmade Mother's day card greetings. No matter what, I have my Mother's Day handmade gifts on my home office wall to help remind me of what is really important - while I type and obsess about technology.
