Sylvie de Gil, Fashion Visionary
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Sylvie de Gil, a Fashion Marketing Specialist from Paris who has been doing some amazing things out in LA. She has recently worked with Jinny Jean and Caroline Monick in helping them to develop their successful lines. Here's what she had to say:
Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What's your educational background? What are your general professional and non-professional interests?
I am born in Paris like my mom, grandmother and great-grand mother and maybe more. I come from a long line of Parisian women. I have a lot of passions in my life like fashion, nutrition, business, marketing. So, I studied all of them along my life! I Have also a strong passion with historic houses in America so I study a lot the different styles and architecture. In fact, I love so many things in my life I think having lived for many years in different countries and sharing different cultures has opened my mind! I love to drive like in a movie, in open and large spaces like Arizona, the plains in Canada. I share my life reading books, surfing in the net. I am really curious. I begin my day with a lot of newspapers from different countries and i love to find a lot of information in the internet.
What does fashion mean to you?
Like the plains, the large spaces ...means open mind, I am so visionary , I can devine the future collection 2 years before in function of the moment, like political moment, sociology, war or not, economy...fashion is a feeling. It is art like food ...we are wearing that we are feeling in this moment. (I want to reword this a little. It's not quite clear. But I think you are trying to say that fashion is a feeling. It's like love at first site. When you see that pair of shoes you know it in your heart. You pick your clothes on a daily basis to reflect you. Fashion is a part of us.)
