The Next Step for Amanda Knox: Possible Book Deal
Amanda Knox, the 24 year old American who was cleared of murder charges and freed from an Italian jail in October, has hired a prominent attorney, Robert Barnett of Washington D.C., as she receives multiple book deal offers, her spokesman, David Marriott, reported Monday.
As reported by Reuters, “Mr. Barnett will also assist Amanda and her family in evaluating other opportunities as well,” Marriott said.
Additional details were not provided around the other opportunities, but did say that few details of a potential book have yet to be decided by Knox or her family.
Only one day before, Sharlene Martin, a literary agent in Seattle, announced that she would represent Knox’s former Italian boyfriend and co-defendant in the murder case, Raffaele Sollecito.
In 2007, Knox, who was studying in Perugia, Italy through a college exchange program, and Sollecito were convicted of murdering Meredith Kercher, her 21-year old British roommate, in an alleged drug-induced sexual assault.
However, after an independent forensics team found the scientific evidence from the original police investigation to be unreliable, an Italian appeals court overturned their convictions in October.
