For bullied teachers and adults, the ethic of "that's the job, deal with it," does nothing to promote the mission of education. There should be an overhaul to establish wellness in social mores for schools. Educators should work to discourage bullies' weak, diseased behavior through social training. They should vigorously apply sanctions for those who act on their sadistic urges because they can and no one will stop them. It's not necessarily a matter completely of right and wrong. It's a matter of weak/sick and strong/healthy.
For her "turning the other cheek" power, there has been a crush of support for Karen Klein in the form of donations for her to use the money "for a rest and vacation." Thus far, the amount pledged and raised has been over $653,467, which Klein has reportedly said she will invest and donate. Klein has also been offered a trip to Disney Land with nine guests by Southwest Airlines. According to Southwest spokesman Brooks Thomas, the airlines felt "it was the right thing to do" because the horrifying video saddened them.
Thankfully, someone was watching and videoing. Thankfully, Sidorov, a Toronto man (not American...hmmm) saw the video and established a fund for Karen which brought her global attention. The bullies were FORCED to apologize. It took global censure and TV appearances to bring them to an apology. Maybe they have been transformed? Maybe this incident will be used as a flashpoint to establish viable sanctions against bullies and promote the fact that such weakness and emotional illness are a health issue for all involved. Or maybe more kids will commit suicide because little will be done after the spotlight has been turned off this bullying incident.
