Woman Denied by Republican Darrell Issa Gives Testimony on Ed Show

His reason for the rejection was that she was not a member of the clergy.
What Ms. Sandra Fluke was, was a third year student at Georgetown University. A university which does not provide birth control due to its religious affiliation.
In a letter released by Issa's staff, “As the hearing is not about reproductive rights but instead about the administration’s actions as they relate to freedom of religion and conscience, he believes that Ms. Fluke is not an appropriate witness.”
Ms. Fluke responded on The Ed Show, "I can not think of who would be more appropriate for the committee to hear from than the women who were affected by this policy, whose lives were affected."
She went on to describe the story of a good friend of hers who was suffering from a disease, polycistic ovarian syndrome, and needed birth control medication to control the spread of the disease. After Georgetown student insurance repeatedly rejected her claims for coverage, the one hundred dollar out of pocket expense became too much to bear for the student. The result of not taking the medication resulted in the loss of an ovary and future reproductive issues for the student.
